CANDLE CLUB

Accessibility Policy & Statement

Effective Date: July 27, 2026   |   Review Cycle: Annual

1. Our Commitment

Candle Club ("Candle Club," "the Club," "we," "us") is committed to ensuring that our website, digital communications, and physical premises are accessible to and usable by all members, guests, and prospective members, including individuals with disabilities. We believe everyone should be able to browse our website, learn about membership, view our menus and calendar, and enjoy our venue with dignity and independence.

This policy describes the standards we follow, the steps we take to meet them, and how members and guests can request accommodations or report accessibility barriers.

2. Scope

This policy applies to:

  • The Candle Club website (candleclubwichita.com) and all subpages, including the Memberships, Menus, Wine & Cocktails, Calendar, and Contact pages
  • Digital communications sent on behalf of Candle Club, including our email newsletter and online forms
  • Our physical premises at 6135 E 13th St North, Wichita, KS 67208, where reasonably achievable and consistent with our status as a private club

3. Accessibility Standard We Target

We use the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), as our internal benchmark for digital accessibility. WCAG 2.2 AA is the standard most commonly referenced by the U.S. Department of Justice, courts, and accessibility auditors when evaluating whether a website is accessible under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

In practice, this means we work toward websites and materials that are:

  • Perceivable — text alternatives for images, sufficient color contrast, and content that does not rely on color or sound alone
  • Operable — full keyboard navigation, visible focus indicators, and no content that traps or times out users unfairly
  • Understandable — clear labels on forms (such as our newsletter signup), consistent navigation, and readable language
  • Robust — code that works correctly with current and future browsers, and with assistive technology such as screen readers

A note on private club status

Title III of the ADA generally governs "places of public accommodation," and its regulations include an exemption for private clubs that are genuinely selective and not open to the general public. Candle Club voluntarily follows WCAG 2.2 AA as a best practice regardless of this exemption, because we want our website and venue to be usable by every member and guest — including current and prospective members with disabilities — and because Kansas and federal consumer-protection and anti-discrimination principles continue to apply to how we communicate and serve members. This policy is a statement of our voluntary commitment and operational practice, not a legal determination of our obligations; we recommend periodic review by qualified legal counsel to confirm how ADA Title III, the Kansas Act Against Discrimination, and any local Wichita ordinances apply to our specific operations.

4. What We Do to Meet This Commitment

  • Structure pages with proper HTML headings, landmarks, and reading order so screen readers and other assistive technology can navigate the site logically
  • Provide descriptive alternative text for meaningful images, and mark purely decorative images so they are skipped by screen readers
  • Maintain sufficient color contrast between text and background, including within our red-and-black brand palette
  • Ensure the site can be fully operated by keyboard alone, with a visible focus indicator on links, buttons, and form fields
  • Label all form fields clearly, including the newsletter signup and contact forms, and provide clear error messages
  • Caption or provide text alternatives for video content where practical, and avoid content that flashes in a way that could trigger seizures
  • Design layouts that reflow and remain usable when a visitor increases text size or browser zoom
  • Periodically test key pages using both automated scanning tools and manual review, including keyboard-only and screen-reader testing
  • Train the team members who publish content (events, menus, newsletters) on basic accessible-content practices, such as writing meaningful link text and descriptive alt text

5. Known Limitations & Third-Party Content

We are actively working to increase the accessibility of our site, but no website can guarantee full conformance at all times, particularly where third-party tools are involved. Areas that may present limitations include:

  • Embedded Google Calendar event links, which are hosted and controlled by Google rather than Candle Club
  • Third-party booking, billing, or login portals (such as our member billing system), which follow the accessibility practices of their respective providers
  • PDF or image-based menus, which we are working to supplement with accessible text-based alternatives
  • Embedded social media content from Facebook and X (Twitter)

If you encounter a barrier in any of these third-party tools, please still let us know — in some cases we can provide the same information through an alternative, accessible format such as a phone call, email, or accessible document.

6. Feedback, Accommodation Requests & Grievance Process

We welcome feedback on the accessibility of our website and venue. If you use assistive technology and encounter a barrier, or if you would like to request an accommodation for a visit or event, please contact us using any of the methods below:

When you contact us, please include, if possible:

Our response commitment

We aim to acknowledge accessibility feedback within two (2) business days and to provide a substantive response or resolution — or a reasonable timeline for one — within ten (10) business days. Where an immediate fix is not possible, we will work with you to provide the information or accommodation you need through an alternative method.

7. Physical Venue Accessibility

Candle Club is located in the Prairie Village Shopping Center at 6135 E 13th St North, Wichita, KS 67208. We aim to provide accessible parking, entry, seating, and restroom access where reasonably achievable. If you are planning a visit or an event and need a specific accommodation — such as accessible seating for a live entertainment night, assistance with entry, or advance notice of building layout — please call us at (316) 684-7281 ahead of your visit so our team can prepare.

8. Ongoing Review of This Policy

This policy is reviewed at least annually, and following any significant redesign of our website or online ordering/booking systems, to reflect updates to WCAG guidance, applicable law, and our own accessibility testing results. It was last reviewed on the effective date shown at the top of this document.
